Amazon Web Services (AWS)\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0the general availability of\u00a0Amazon DataZone<\/a>, a data management service that enables customers to catalog, discover, govern, share, and analyze data at scale across organizational boundaries. With Amazon DataZone, users can share and access data throughout an organization via a unified data portal and add business context to data to make data discovery easier, while balancing access governance with pre-defined approvals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First\u00a0announced\u00a0at re:Invent 2022, Amazon DataZone addresses major customer pain points around data discovery and access, collaboration, and governance with the following capabilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Enterprise-ready business catalog<\/strong>: Customers can now customize the catalog with automated metadata generation which uses machine learning to automatically generate business names of data assets and columns within those assets. This adds business context to data and makes it discoverable to everyone in an organization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Self-Service for Data Users: <\/strong>To provide data autonomy for users to publish and consume data, customers can now customize and bring any type of asset to the catalog using APIs. This has advantages for both data publishers and consumers, who benefit from enhanced metadata discovery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Simplified Access to Analysis: <\/strong>Customers can create a project and collaborate on specific business use case-based groupings of people, data, and analytics tools. Within a project, anyone in an organization can create an environment that provides the necessary infrastructure to project members, such as analytics tools and storage, so project members can easily produce new data or consume data they have access to. This also allows users to add multiple capabilities and analytics tools to the same project depending on their needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Governed Data Sharing: <\/strong>Data producers now own and manage access to data with a subscription approval workflow that allows consumers to request access and data owners to approve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
